Keynote 1 The Shifting Global Mega Trends and Their Impacts on Business, Culture & Society

Focus rests on how the global megatrends with business and social changes are impacting the sourcing marketplace, with particular emphasis on urbanization, demand for additional content, sourcing and demand for access to new markets within the ASEAN region. Is global sourcing playing a pivotal role? Will local service providers be able to gain from this drive? What do they need to do to become key partners for growth?

10.15am – 10.45am Refreshment Break
10.45am – 11.00am

Keynote 2 - Malaysia – Truly transforming Asia

Show casing the Malaysia mantra. The government’s initiatives and working closely with the outsourcing industry has provided the much-needed catalysts to spur growth, creating domain capabilities/ competencies and influencing the market to drive positive business outcomes. Does this strategy reflect the ethos of the industry? Alternatively, what more needs to be established? Reflecting upon the brief history of this industry, where’s the new latent opportunity? What has been achieved so far? Where to from here?

11.00am – 12.00pm

Plenary Panel 1 – Is Outsourcing Getting Commoditized – Provider Perspectives in Search of a Value Proposition

A quick look at the offerings of leading ITO and BPO providers would lead one to believe that not much innovation is happening in this space. Does that match the reality on the ground? We all know the extensive levels of customization that ERP vendors are asked to do. How much of this is a reflection of customers unwilling to adopt “standard best practices”? Is this also an indication of a resistance to innovation, possibly in response to regulatory concerns regarding controls and governance? Does this panel foresee a continuation of this lack of change in the industry? Where, if any, is the space for innovation to happen? What should corporates do to break this trend? Do ERP vendors have a role to play?

12.00pm – 1.00pm

Plenary Panel 2 – Is Outsourcing Getting Commoditized – Customer Perspectives in Search of a Value Proposition

A quick look at the offerings of leading ITO and BPO providers would lead one to believe that not much innovation is happening in this space. There seems to be no realization of “business value, industry outcomes etc”. Does that match the reality on the ground? Our just concluded panel discussion with some ERP & BPO providers seems to indicate a host of perspectives and opportunities. What expectations and experiences does the user community have in this space? What were the providers promises? Have they delivered? What seems to be the issue here for the long term development of the sector?

1.00pm – 2.00pm Lunch
2.00pm – 2.45pm Plenary Panel 3 – GREAT DEBATE: Where Is the Growth Next – Service Lines, Revenues & Capability Issues in a Competitive ContextIndustry/ domain emphasis vs. services/ technology competencies – the conundrum faced by the industry. Are clients expecting providers to enable new revenues and new services that dovetail neatly with their corporate strategies, or are providers expected to remain on the fringe while corporations continue to endeavor it on their own? What’s the focus for the next decade? Where will the value come from?
2.45pm – 3.45pm

Plenary Panel 4 –Client Acquisition & Its Follies – The Battle between Sales & Marketing vs. Thought Leadership & Business Outcomes

Providers have continued to endeavor at acquiring clients through deploying old product-centric selling strategies, much to the chagrin of buyers, where business value is eroded for quick wins, at whatever costs. Marketing spend by providers is on the increase, where promises of value-creation are shortchanged in reality with mediocre delivery capabilities as evidenced in the region. Is this an issue with the entire approach toward client acquisition as being nothing more than “successfully selling a story”? Global providers have – meanwhile – emphasized on thought-leadership, business outcomes and solution selling as a successful approach toward acquiring and retaining clients. Why is this dichotomy existing? What lessons are to be learned by providers in today’s complex marketplace where an eclectic mix of corporate value-systems, technology impacts, process efficiencies and domain capabilities seems to elude most providers?

 3.45pm – 4.15pm  Refreshment Break
4.15pm – 5.00pm

Plenary Panel 5 – Deepening Value Creation – Are You Ready for Carve-Outs, JVs and Inorganic Models?

Today’s marketplace is complete with a host of service providers – most small and inconsequential in the context of a growing buyer marketplace. Partnerships have fallen through the cracks, vendor management has become more complex, demanding size, scale and a consolidated view toward service delivery. In this context, the pressure on small service providers to remain relevant is higher than ever, pushing them to pursue inorganic models to grow. Meanwhile, large corporations who have refrained from outsourcing are being forced to consider partner models to remain competitive, thereby pushing them to consider carve-outs and joint ventures with competent service providers. Is the market ready for such entrenched models in the APAC region yet? What are the challenges?

8.30am – 10.30am Breakfast Networking Session
10.30am – 11.15am

Keynote 3 – Outsourcing Marketplace : Where to From Here ?

Outsourcing activity in 2010 was heavily influenced by the emergence of Cloud Computing technology, multi-sourcing and an unprecedented level of expiring outsourcing contracts. The result was intense competition for awards despite smaller values and shorter durations. Hear more about the 2010 trends and how these conditions are likely to continue throughout 2011 and beyond.

11.15am – 12.00pm

Plenary Panel 6 – Convergence, Infrastructure Services & The Cloud

The sourcing models of yesteryears are beginning to take a beating from emerging trends around “as-a-service” models, across applications, infrastructure and platforms. Infrastructure management services, on-demand computing and pay-as-you-go models are turning the marketplace into a melee. What’s the future? Where’s the clarity and what lessons need to be learned?
